Caroline

Agree about the Marmite. I am not sure about the colour version of the last shot for instance, I think I prefer the black and white version. I do like the painting like quality of the images, however, there is always the argument of - why didn't you just paint it and not use a camera.....

Have to use a tripod though as I'd look silly on the course without one ;-) - seriously, I think with things like these trees you need to make sure that teh movement is linear in their direction, which I could only guarantee with a tripod. Let's not forget this set of 7 is out of a total of 30 - so didn't need to throw a huge lot.

Will check out your 500px lot. Another website to log into after this, picasa, flickr etc etc etc

Hi Alex:)
I think this type of image is very much Marmite =love/hate! Generally I'm a fan. The final 2 shots of the trees really work best for me, I especially like the colour in the first of these.
Take a look at www.500px.com/carolineshipsey for some of my pics.

I don't use a tripod when I'm doing this and sometimes I just keep walking and pressing the shutter only looking to see the results when I get home. I'm not a fan of my tripod at the best of times but I feel it takes away some of the sense of freedom, especially with this type of photography....

Fully appreciate this. I think there might be an issue with Firefox vs explorer - but we'll get to the bottom of this..... :-)

That maybe so , but if the blog cannot display the image so that everyone can see it as you intend it to be seen, then maybe this medium is not the best host for a photography blog .

Now I know what you mean: in order to have a picture appear as a thumbnail I need to set it to featured image - that also inserts it as a cropped version at the beginning of each post. The actual image will be a bit later in the post.

It makes no real sense if you just post one image in a blog - but it would do if you had a bit more to write and show....

Alex ,

It might be my machine , but you definately have an issue with the sizing of your pictures here.

Picture 1 is defo a crop of picture 2 yet the proportion of picture 2 is not natural at all.
the width of picture 2 is the same as pic 1 yet the height is nearly 50% more in pic 2 .

Hi Alex ,
It must be me then, but the perspectives seem different and the overall impression is that shots 1and 3 seem a bit compressed in the width .
Does that help ?

Kev, Not sure what you mean by the cropping. I have tried to look at this on various different PCs and the post looks the same. Can you explain a bit more where you have the issue?

Alex
great shots my friend, accompanied with a poetic yet well observed response to the beauty that can become far more obvious when trying to photograph the real world. With a camera you can shoot it yet still watch it bend with the breeze.
Do you have an issue with sizeing the photographs ? or is it a cropping issue as they do not appear natural when looking at all 3 ?
